about 2 weeks ago i decided to start a project i'd been meaning to for awhile. i'd bought a coat in the fall but the pockets in it were tiny, so i wanted to add another pocket. because it was near chinese new year, i thought i'd make it a red pocket, like the red envelopes with lucky money that are given out. they usually have some kind of greeting on it, wishing happy new year, progress in school, a prosperous business, good health, that kind of thing. the one that i chose means "accomplish that in your heart" and i was inspired by a design for a crest i saw in a book. i feel like this is probably the most chinesey thing i've done and i like it a lot. i stabbed myself deeply in the finger with the blunt end of the needle today and it was a gusher.

i heard about this cool miniature diorama of 16th century osaka the japanese canadian cultural centre had and checked it out after work this week. my favourite was the guy selling the masks and pinwheels, and the fish market.
