nyc

i went to my cousin's wedding reception this past weekend in new york city. the long drive to and back was draining but the brief time i spent in the city was nice. my sister and i took my dad to times square and i think he really enjoyed the lights and the crowd there. on saturday morning and afternoon we had some free time to visit uniqlo, muji, my favourite bookstore kinokuniya and others. met up with my cousin terence to check out a huge street festival on 6th avenue where we had roasted corn and watermelon.

then after my dad, sister and i got ready in our hotel, we walked over to studio 450 for the reception. from the somewhat dingy entrance we had to take a freight elevator to the rooftop and my aunt made me laugh with her comments about how sketchy it all seemed. i didn't realize until afterwards how close we were located to the high line, which is this awesome park in the lower west side built on a section of a former elevated freight railroad. it's not very clear in the picture below but you can sort of see a green strip to the right of the condo. i definitely have to check it out the next time i visit! i don't have a picture but we could also see the friendswithyou rainbow city installation from the building which i really enjoyed in toronto last summer.

the food and decor was a mix of chinese and western, ending with a yummy cake from momofuku. it was cool getting to see family i haven't seen in forever, especially my cousin's new baby, and i enjoyed the super relaxed and chill (but still sophisiticated) vibe of the party.

this is the man who was operating the elevator for us. he had a mini office set up in there, with lots of shelving along one wall for his tools and supplies, complete with a stool and potted plant.
