sarah mcneil had mentioned pavlova on her twitter a couple of months ago and not knowing what it was, i looked it up on wiki and it looked pretty delicious. it's a meringue dessert named after the russian ballet dancer anna pavlova and it's usually eaten with whipped cream and fresh fruit. i was determined to try it and when visiting australia, my friend (also named sarah) helped me find it in a store. we had it for dessert at her home and it was super yum. that was also the first time i tried fresh passion fruit and i was amazed that it was tangy, pulpy and seedy. i saw the ready made meringue part for sale in a supermarket in wellington as well but didn't want to buy the big pack of them so i didn't have it there. i wanted to try making it myself and in auckland i picked up this book all about the soft, crunchy and tasty dessert. i put sliced mangos, raspberries and passion fruit on the one i made today and it turned out pretty good i think. whether pavlova originated in australia or new zealand it doesn't matter to me, i just think it's a sweet treat and it was fun to make.
i don't know when i'll post about my trip but for now, here is where i posted some pics
