sssmokin'!

the last time i made mac n cheese i didn't think a roux was necessary to make the cheese sauce and just stirred grated cheese directly into the cooked macaroni. i know better now, as the cheese didn't adhere to the noodles and it didn't look that good. my friends still ate it, thankfully.
i tried making mac with smoked cheese last night for dinner and it was more successful. we used a combination of extra old cheddar, applewood smoked cheddar and smoked gouda. josh even had smoked paprika that we added in between two layers of the mac n cheese mixture. then we topped it off with panko and crunchy fried onions from ikea.

dinosaur boners

was listening to my ipod on shuffle this evening and it played a song from a band i hadn't listened to in awhile called dinosaur bones. for a part the singer's voice reminded me of thom yorke. my favourite is "birthright", one of their more mopey ones but they have upbeat songs as well.

this morning i dreamt that my sister and i were organizing an overnight camp for kids. there were a lot of things to set up and craft supplies to buy. i was stressing out because we had to lug around coolers and prepare the food in time as well. we had to deep fried oreos and chicken and cake. i didn't know what i was doing at first but then i remembered how to by thinking of the many episodes of diners, drive-ins and dives i'd seen. i made a yummy marinade for the chicken and set up a dredging station. the chicken was amazing and the kids at the camp had fun. they were all chinese.

one hand in the air for the big city

went on a trip to new york city with josh last week. had a blast as always. ate too much food and walked and shopped until we dropped.
at kenka izakaya. i saw a cute sounding beer on the menu and ordered it but it was non-alcoholic. when we received our bill they gave us small cups of pink powder so we could make our own cotton candy at their machine.
cereal milk and apple cheddar ice cream at momofuku milk bar. had their crack pie for breakfast the next day and i can't wait to make it on my own again.
finally got to check out the high line park. it's definitely a neat place
drinks and old school arcade games at barcade
the reservoir at central park
the outside window of the whitney museum, where we were waiting in line for the timed entry tickets to yayoi kusama's fireflies on the water installation. it was incredible.

cute sculptures inside the subway station
cool mosaics of flying people at 125th st station in harlem

josh showed me this website http://therapboard.com/. i think my favourites might be method man, ja rule, and e-40 "ghostride the whip"
